Why do I have to click a button instead of it running automatically?
This tool queries RIPE's database directly, and RIPE rate-limits WHOIS queries per source IP. Every visitor's request here is proxied through the same server, so a manual click (rather than an automatic lookup on page load) keeps that shared quota available for everyone, and keeps bots that merely render this page from generating query traffic against RIPE.
Why does this only query RIPE and not other regional registries?
RIPE NCC covers Europe, the Middle East, and parts of Central Asia. IP ranges registered under other regional internet registries (ARIN, APNIC, LACNIC, or AFRINIC) will return no result here, since the query goes directly to RIPE's database.
What are the "Announced Routes" listed below the main record?
These are the BGP route objects registered for this network: the IP range paired with the Autonomous System Number (ASN) authorized to announce it on the internet. A range can have more than one, especially for anycast or multi-homed networks.
